HomeMy WebLinkAboutR1969-03 Kaibab Western Slope Lumber Company A RESOLUTION ASSERTING COMMUNITY CONCERN RE KAIBAB-WESTERN SLOPE LUMBER COMPANY Whereas , the community of Eagle acknowledges the cordial relations that have always existed with Kaibab-Western Slope and with its predecessor, and • Whereas , the community of Eagle recognizes the benefits to the town and its economy decruiiig from the operations of Kaibab, and Whereas , it is evident to the people of Eagle that long-range develop- ment of the Eagle investment of Kaibab is closely related and tied to the orderly development of the community as a whole , and Whereas , it has been brought to the attention of the community that certain conditions have indicated the practicality of removing the Kaibab logging and milling operations from Eagle, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that A. the Eagle Chamber of Commerce institute at once , action along the lines prescribed hereinafter, to assure Kaibab of its desire to assist in improving or remedying those conditions which have become factors pro or con in the decision to be made as to whether Kaibab will remain in Eagle and expand its operations there, or will move to another locations 1 . recommend to the Town Council that those necessary steps be taken which will produce a stabilized year-round tap pressure in the town water system, enabling Kaibab 411 to be assured of a dependable and adequate water supply for ite mill needs; and further exert whatever influ- ences are appropriate and effective in insuring that such action be taken 2. pursue with such agencies as the U. S . Forest Service, the Colorado Department of Highways , and the County Commissioners of Eagle County , all considerations which bear upon the practicability and means of improving the existing highway between Eagle and Thomasville; and further exert such pressures and recommendations as are appropriate and effective in inducing, those improvements as quickly as possible B. the Chamber does hereby commend the Holy Cross Electrical Association for its offer to enter into such preliminary study as is necessary and to negotiate if possible more favorable rates for electric power needs of Kaibab at the Eagle mill. C. the Chamber does hereby assert its attitude to be one of great concern about losing a valuable facet of its economy , and of assured determination to follow through immediately , actively, and aggressively in implernentin;; this resolution.
