RE: Issuance of Individual Sewage Disposal System Permits #1808-98 and #1890-99,
Tax Parcel #2189-272-01-005. Property Location: 967 Buck Point Drive,
Carbondale, CO, Gassman residence and studio.
Enclosed are your ISDS Permits #1808-98 and #1890-99. These are valid for 120 days. The
enclosed copies of the permits must be posted at both installation sites. Any changes in plans or
specifications invalidates the permits unless otherwise approved.
Also enclosed is the ISDS Final Inspection Completeness Form. The items on this form need
to be completed before you call for your final inspection. Also, please note any special
conditions which may have been placed on the permits. If all items are not completed, a
reinspection fee of $42.50 must be paid before a reinspection is made.
Please call our office well in advance to allow for scheduling of final inspections. Your building
permit TCO will not be issued until final approval has been given for the ISDS Permit.
Permit specifications are minimum requirements only, and should be brought to the property
owner's attention.
These permits do not indicate conformance with other Eagle County requirements.

The subject site is located at 967 Buck. point Drive on Lot 18, Colter Creek Ranches in Eagle County. The
maim house will have three bedrooms and a detached garage with a studio for a total living area of 2,918
square feet. The lot is approximately 35.78 acres in size. Water is supplied by a well on the property
about 110 feet west of the southeast property cc-nttiµ =rl.: pr;rox:m.ately 1,375 feet away from the studio.
The existing ground surface near the area for the proposed septic system slopes to the southeast at a 19.0 %
grade.
Attached herewith are the results of the subsurface investigation and percolation tests conducted by
Hepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. dated September 3 and 18, 1041S• The subsoil encountered at the site
consists of about two (2') feet of topsoil above dark gray to reddish -brown sandy clay with scattered
cobbles to a depth of ten (10") feet. The water table was encountered at ten feet deep in the profile pit.
Three test holes were used with varying absorptionn, rates for each of the test holes with the fastest measured
rate of 30 minutes per inch, yet the slowest measured at.120 minutes per inch. Due to the :wide variation in
absorption rates, more percolation tests were done on September 18, The results of the latest percolation
test indicated the subsurface sails are inconsistent in absorption of wastewater, Eagle County Regulations
will not accept absorption. rates longer than 60 minutes per inch for design of conventional leach field
systems. As an alternative solution, an absorption system is recommended, but the field is s' ei d by using
the a pation for a Evapotranspiration System f ET System). The system is not a ET System in the aspect
that it w_d1 not be lined. The system will act as an absorption system.
Proposed residence is a 3 bedroom house with a detached stadia. The design flow is calculated as follows:
Residence unit - 3 bedrooms @ 2 person ibedroom - 6 person
Studio unit - separate unit @ 3.5 person /unit - 3.5 person
Total # of occupants - 9.5 person

September 3. 1998 and September 18, 1998. The results of these tests indicated the sail conditions needed
longer than 50 minutes absorption time which Eagle County regulations require a Engineered designed
system.

3) 'The contractor shall ensure that the ,oncrste septic tank and sewer lines are completely watertight.
4) The bed area must be protected to prevent damage from vehicular or livestock traffic and must be
crowned to divert drainage runoff away from the bed.
3) The contractor shall not excavate to a depth greater than six feet (6') at any one location within the site
of the proposed bed.
5) he send material utilized in the bed shall have an affective size between 0.25 mm and 1.00 min. The
uniformity coefficient shall be 4.0 or less.
7) Add two-way cleanouts on each service line from the house and studio.
8) The- bed area must be protected from irrigation and surface drainage diverted away from infiltrating
into the field.
9) Livestock should not be confined in the field area.
Our design and recomfnendations are based upon data supplied to us by others. If subsurface or site
conditions are, found to be different from those decided in this report, we should be notified to evaluate the
effect it may have on the proposed ISDS. If the County Environmental Health Department requests
changes or modifications to this design, we should be contacted to evaluate the effect on the ISDS.

Dear Mr. Gassman:
As requested, percolation testing was conducted at the subject site on August 19, 1998
for design of an infiltration septic disposal system. The work was performed in
accordance with our agreement for professional services with you dated August 14,
1998.
One profile pit and three percolation holes had been dug prior to our arrival at the
approximate locations shown on Fig. 1. The test holes which were about 6 inch in
diameter were soaked with water one day prior to testing. The soils exposed in the
percolation holes appear similar to those exposed in the Profile Pit, shown on Fig. 2,
and consist of dark gray sandy clay. The percolation test results are presented in Table
I.
Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and the percolation test results, the
tested area should be suitable for a conventional infiltration septic disposal system. An
average rate of 60 minutes per inch appears suitable for design. We recommend the
infiltration area be oversized due to the relatively slow percolation rate.

Enclosed are your ISDS Permits #1808-98 and #1890-99. These are valid for 120 days. The
enclosed copies of the permits must be posted at both installation sites. Any changes in plans or
specifications invalidates the permits unless otherwise approved.
Also enclosed is the ISDS Final Inspection Completeness Form. The items on this form need
to be completed before you call for your final inspection. Also, please note any special
conditions which may have been placed on the permits. ' If all items are not completed, a
reinspection fee of $42.50 must be paid before a reinspection is made.
Please call our office well in advance to allow for scheduling of final inspections. Your building
permit TCO will not be issued until final approval has been given for the ISDS Permit.
Permit specifications are minimum requirements only, and should be brought to the property
owner's attention.
These permits do not indicate conformance with other Eagle County requirements.
