The issues of your concern for the long distance of the tank from the building (24' + 75' originally) and the owner's need for parking near the building were solved by the contractor, Ron Grout. Mr. Grout convinced the owner to change his parking and the tank was installed 7.6 feet from the building. See the enclosed as -built drawing. Mr. Grout installed the 4" sdr 35 pipe inside a 6" sdr 35 sleeve to protect the line in the parking lot area. The entire sewer line (24' + 60) was covered with 2" x 24" rigid foam before compacting. The weather was partly cloudy in the mid 70's. The site was returned to on September 10, 1997. The holes were topped off again with water at 10:15 A.M. and allowed to soak until the level reached the lower quarter of the hole. The weather was cloudy with temperatures in the high 60's. DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS• The Garden Center facility will contain two public restrooms, a break room for employees with a microwave, and two showers. The main business of the company is landscaping, so the restrooms are provided as a convenience for the few (less than 40 total per day) customers who visit the green house yard. The two showers are to be installed as safety cleaning stations and a convenience to the employees who need to clean up before going home. The owner estimates that no more four showers per day will be taken. There will not be more than ten full time workers at the site each day using the restrooms. The hole was easily dug with a backhoe and contained only a few fist sized rocks. There.was no evidence of crystals of salts left by a high groundwater table or chemically reduced iron to indicate saturated water conditions historically in the soil layers. The lower three feet of silty red clay contained about 8% moisture which would form a ball when compressed, but easily broke with finger tip point loading. Septic tank by Copeland Concrete Septic Installation Instructions . , . For Infiltrator Chambers. SYSTEMS INC 1 Before You Begin... Remember, Infiltrator° chambers can only be installed according to state and/or local regulations. If you are not sure of the installation requirements for a particu- lar site, be sure to contact your local regulator. Photos in these instructions depict a Standard Infiltrator chamber installation. However, instructions also apply to High Capacity Infiltrator chamber installations. Excavating and Preparing the Site. Leveling the bottom of the trench. Attaching the End Plates. Guidelines Like conventional systems, Infiltrator chambers must be installed on sites where the soils and site conditions have been approved for a septic installation. Be sure that you or your local health official conduct a thorough site evaluation and determine the proper sizing of the system before pro- ceeding with an installation. ® Plan the site excavation by staking out the location of all trenches and lines. Set the elevations of the tank, piping, and trench bottom. E3Excavate and level 3-foot wide trenches with proper center to center separation. Be sure trenches are level or have the prescribed slope. ® Rake the bottom and sides if smearing has occurred while excavating. Remove any large stones and other debris. aCheck to be sure that the trench bottom is level using a 4-foot level, transit or laser. Attach the end plates on only the first and last chambers of each trench. UScrew in the 6" x 8" splash plate at the bottom of the open end plate with splash plate pointed so it will protrude into the chamber. ® Secure the open end plate to the end of the chamber. • For SnapLock" end plates — attach by inserting the tabs on one side of end plate to the slots located on the flange of the chamber. Hold these in place and firmly tap the other side of end plate to snap tabs into slots, fully engaging end plate. • For Original end plates — attach by inserting 2" screws into the 4 starter holes located on the chamber flange. ® Install the closed end plate on the last unit with the knobs facing into the chamber and secure as above. It is important to follow these guidelines when using construction machinery: • Avoid direct contact with chambers when using a large -wheeled vehicle, especially if the soil has not been compacted. Always be sure to have a minimum of 12" of compacted cover over chambers. Chambers with this minimum covering can support a load of 16,000 pounds per axle in all soils except sands. • Only drive across trenches. Never drive down the length of the trenches. • To avoid further compaction of the soils, never drive heavy vehicles over the completed system. Installing the Chambers. Setting the inlet pipe to 71/4". Placing additional chambers into the trench. Packing down the fill along the sides of the chambers. ® Check the header pipe to be sure that it is level. ® Set the inlet pipe invert at 71/4" from the bottom of the trench to the bottom of the inlet when installing Standard Infiltrator chambers. NOTE: When using High Capacity Infiltrator chambers, set inlet pipe invert at 11". ® Place the first chamber with the open end plate at the beginning of the trench. aInsert the inlet pipe into the end of the chamber. The pipe will only go into the unit 1" before it reaches a stop. 13 Check this first chamber to be sure it is level or has the prescribed slope. 13 Secure the inlet pipe to the chamber with a screw. aPlace the next chamber onto the previous chamber at a 45 degree angle. Line up hook on the center end of the chamber and lower the chamber to the ground, engaging the patented interlocks. aFill the sidewall area to the top of the louvers by pulling soil from trench sides with a shovel. Be sure the fill covers the louvers. 0 Pack down the fill by walking along the edges of the trench. This is an important step that assures correct structural support. Continue interlocking the chambers until you have installed the correct number of chambers for that trench. The last chamber in the trench is typically the one with a closed end plate. As you install the chambers, check to be sure that they are level or have the prescribed slope. MProceed to the next trench and begin with step 1 again. . . 0 SYSTEMS INC Installing Inspection Ports. Covering the System. Before backfilling, the system should be inspected by a health official, or as required. ® Backfill the trench by pushing the cover onto the units. Keep a minimum of 12" of compacted cover over the chambers before driving over system. Do not drive over chambers while backfilling in sand since sand does not give adequate support in any septic system. When finishing the system, it is best to leave several inches of soil above the trenches to allow for settling and be sure that runoff water is diverted away from the system. MWhen system is covered, the site should be seeded or sodded to prevent erosion. Backfilling the trenches.
