(individual septic syst rn permit #161.A-96. attn: Janet Dear Jaety The septic system installed at the Eiseman Hut has been built in accordance with our Civil Engineer's instructions. I witnessed part of the insWfation, Out our Engineer was not there to see it.. They used a perfaratcd concrete ring Measuring 48r in diameCer and 4811 tall, filled with washed crock aggregate measwing 3/4" - 1-1/2", then covered with a concrete cap which came specifically made for the ring. A V drain line was connected into the side of the concrete ring, from the Idtchen sinks inside the building, where a grease trap is installed to intercept grease and solids. The concrete ring and the connecting lilt were bacldilled with between 5 and 5-1/2 feet of soil. The Parts i actuaUy witnessed when r was there early in late September w-m the plw=nent of the ring and tbr. washed rock placed inside it. I saw the cap, but it had not yet beers placed on top., and the weather was getting worse by the hour. They completed tWs septic system fi0Ok6ip work shortly after my visit, so that they could backtill the building before the weather began to introduce frost into tile. ground. If there is any weed to see photographs of the installation, we are in luck. Peter McBride has taken over 600 photographs of the taut construction, including complete documentation of the septic system installation. We have asked Peter to pull those out and make copies of them, which he is now doing. I understand that you will issue a TCC1 for the p rojeot, mad that a full Co will be issued upon your receipt of a letter from Yancy Nichol, our Civil Engineer, that the installation was dorms its accordance with his design. Thank you for issuing the TCC, and I will ask Yancy to issue his stamped letter as soon as he returns to town and studies Peter's photographs. sincerely yours. Attached here please find cut sheets, stamped by our Civil Engineer, for outhouse vault privy, water cistern and solids/grease trap, for use at the Eiseman Hut north of Vail. The description of each of these component systems is as follows: 1. Vault Privy. AEI The RNUA 000 gallon septic tank (without baffle) will be used under the outhouse, with 1 both risers -installed- for toilet seat attachment. Vents will be attached at the ends, and run up the outside of the outhouse past the roof. Bi-Annual cleanout (at the beginning and the end of winter) will be accomplished with a pump truck, through the risers. The tank is ribbed to resist backfilled-earth pressures when the tank is empty. 2. Water Cistern: r We will use a Horizontal,, Leg Tank (# 1010 w/ drain) for water storage from our roof gutters, to be used for kitchen dishwashing and emergency fire protection. The tank will be placed below the kitch n sinks in the crawlspace, and will be accessed with a hand pump at one of the sinks. t° 3. Solids/Grease Trap: We will use a Zurn #Z-1180-SS solids interceptor for both kitchen sink drains. This device will be mounted under one of the sinks, placed for easy access and cleanout. From the personal experiences of the TNIDHA staff, we anticipate that the average flow sate will be 10 gallons erdday. On more but trips than I can count, I have also experienced that this small amount of water is accurate, and typical. Water use is at a premium when one must melt snow to get it. Dishwashing is done with the absolute minimum amount of water possible. This also means that people tend to wipe grease and solids from the dishes before washing, to extend the life of the dishwater. From the outlet of the interceptor, one drain line will go into the crawlspace, then out the downhill (west) side of the but underground, and will drain into a I-CY concrete ring drywell, filled with 3/4" washed rock, placed below frost level (4-1/2-feet underground). This water will then drain into the ground. Please call me at 970-920-1142 x22, or Yancy Nichol at 970-927-1424, if you have any questions. The description of each of these component systems is as follows_ 1. Vault Privy: The RM1 1,000 gallon septic tank (without baffle) will be used under the outhouse, with both risers installed for toilet seat attachment. vents will be attached at the ends, and ruin up the outside of the outhouse past the roof, $i-,Annual cleanout (at the beginning and the end of wither) will be accomplished with a pump truck, through the risers. The tank is ribbed to resist backfllled-earth pressures when the tank is empty. 2. mister Cistern: We will use a Horizontal Log Tank (#1010 w/ drain) for water storage from our roof gutters, to be used for kitchen dishwashing and emergency fire protection. The tank will be placed below the kitchen sink,% in the crawlspace, and will be accessed with a hand pump at one of the sinks_ 3. Solids/Grease Trap: We will use a Zurn #Z-1190-SS solids interceptor for both kitchen sink drains. This device will be mounted under one of the sinks, placed for easy access and cleanout. From the personal experiences of the TMDHA staff_. we anticipate that the average flow rate will be 10 gallons per .dU. On more but trips than. I can count, I have also experienced that this small amount of water is accurate, and typical. Water use is at a premium when one must melt snow to get it Dishwashing is done with the absolute minimum amount of water possible. This also means that people tend to wipe grease and solids from the dishes before washing, to extend the life of the dishwater. From the outlet of the interceptor, one drain line will go into the crawlspace, then out the downhill (west) side of the but undergroutA and will drain into a I-CY concrete ring drywell, filled with 3/4" washed rock, placed below frost level (4-1/2-feet underground). This water will then drain into the ground. Please call me at 970-920-1142 x22, or Yancy Nichol at 970-927-1424, if you have any questions. Department P.O. Box 179 Eagle, CO. 81631 Re. Eiseman Tenth Mountain Hut, Middle Creek Site SE Job # 96026.01 Dear Heather: This letter is a follow up from our phone conversation on June 25, 1996. The drain pipe from the kitchen, sinks to the dry well can, be cleaned out from the d.rywel.l to the Hut if the drain pipe is placed in a straight line. If any bends are placed in the drain pipe then a clean out would be required at the bend and a two way clean out would be required just out side of the structure. The drain pipe needs to be a 4" diameter pipe with a minimum of 2.00 slope. The dearth being a 7-1/2 feet is based upon aot knowing the sails type, sun exposure, but mainly that the flows are very minimum and, if the line does freeze them there would be no fixing the line until spring thaw. If you have any additional questions please call. SOPRTS ENGINEERING, LLC Sincerely, Yancy Nichol, P.U.
