SOIL PERCOLATION TEST
For: John H. Connor Property
By: Jerry C. Law, P.E.
Date: December 12, 1995
Weather: Cloudy, 42°F, slight rain. Several weeks of unusually warm weather
preceded the test.
Standards: Eagle County ISDS, page 34.
RESULTS: HOLE N° RATE (min/in.)
1 4.2
2 6.5
3 3.8
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Compact the soil during leach field construction to a consistent density
and retest to assure at least a 5 min/in. percolation rate is achieved.
2. If 5min/in. can not be obtained by compaction then blend in some soil,
containing clay, recompact and retest.

Dear Ms. Trujillo:
Mere is the field data you requered for the percolation tests on the John Connor property:
The three holes were dug at 3:00 P.M. on December 11, 1995 then filled with. water. The
holes were topped off again with water at 3:40 and covered with boards, to prevent frost,
before leaving the site_ The weather was partly cloudy with mid 40's temperature.
The site was returned to on December 12,1995. All three holes were filled with water and
allowed to soak. The initial time started when the level sank to at least 27" below the
surface in the 36"+ holes: the bottom. 25% in other words.

Further percolation tests will be required during construction to increase the rate up to no
less than 5 minutes per inch. The rate will be increased by blending in some silty loam soil
and then uniformaily compacting the trash.
Thank you for your pronVt professional atteution durhtg the permitting of Mr_ Connor's
septic system, Please let me know if you need any Tuore information,
Sincerely,

Dear Mr. Law
Eagle County Building
P.O. Box 179

Eagle, Colorado 81631-0179
I have tried to contact you by phone on a few occasions to discuss the design of John Connor's
individual sewage disposal system but I have been unsuccessful. I would like you to know that
we have taken a look at the new design, but we are unable to permit the design. I have enclosed a
copy from our EPA design manual' regarding the design of a mounded system for your reference.
Along with a new design I would like to see the percolation test. Due to the fast percolation rate
and the use of Infiltrators we use 15.5 square foot per unit in determining the number of units
needed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any questions please feel free to contact
our office at 328-8755.

Reference: John H. Connor Septic system permit
Dear Environmental Department:
The property to be developed by John Connor is 14.1 miles north of Dotsero
along the Colorado River. The proposed building site is surrounded by a
county road to the north, the railroad to the west, the Colorado River to the
south -and Leonard Sinclair's property to the east. The leach field soils are
mostly silty and sandy loams with a thinTlaver,of organics on the surface and
river rock it a depth of 6' 4" The December 12, 1995 water table
below the surface.
The challenge for this site was in isolating the absorbtion area from the
water table by using a 20 mil pond liner, nd raiding the elevation of area
ro'by 611. The normal high water table -level is 4.3 feet below the surface. The
ten year high water table level is approximately 3.6 feet below the surface.
The 100 year flood elevation is 3 inches below the surface. The leach field
may be deemed "safe" due to the 20 feet distance between the leach field and
the 100 year flood fringe. The cleansing action of the lined sand filter
assures that the water cleaving the end of the filter will be relatively pure.
See the drawing labelled "PATH OF SEPTIC FLUID" for a profile view of this safe
'distance from flood waters. The flow of septic water will pass through four
vertical feet of a lined sand filterthen flow horizontally through another
r:
20 to 92 feet of lined sand filter where the "purified" water will be wicked
up by willow trees or flow harmlessly into the groundwater.
