SEPTIC SYSTEM APPLICATION
Dr. Chipman Parcel
Lake Creek, Eagle County
SW 1/4 NE 1/4 Section 7 TSS R82W
Prepared for: Dr. Chipman
P.O. Box 5500
Avon, CO 81620
Prepared by: Alpine Engineering, Inc.
P.O. Box 97
Edwards, CO 81632
INTRODUCTION
It appears that Dr. Chipman's absorption trenches are not percolating adequately. Apparently,
the existing septic system was permitted and constructed about 2 years ago.
As discussed with Dr. Chipman, and Don Johnson (Edwards Excavating, and the Contractor
who constructed the existing septic system):
-Existing septic tank = 1 gallon j
-20 infiltrator units were installed =
two beds at 62.5 feet long
-4 bedroom house
Don thinks that some faucets or fixtures ran or leaked for a month or so during construction
of the house, which may have overloaded the absorption trenches. Apparently, the faucets
have been corrected. It appears that the absorption trenches are located in an area where
final grades were cut down 2 to 4 feet from the existing ground elevation. It is possible that
the absorption trenches are located in a soil layer that is different than the soil where
percolation tests were taken.
I asked Dr. Chipman if he knew of any uses in the building which may have increased the
quantity of flow to the septic system from the original assumptions, such as hot tubs,
numerous or large parties, etc. He was not aware of anything that would have increased the
flow to the septic system above the originally estimated quantity.
Percolation tests were completed in an area approximately 70 feet southeast of the existing
absorption area, which is located in an undisturbed area, outside of the grading limits for the
building. The new percolation tests indicate that a slightly larger absorption area be required
than was constructed. It is proposed to install a bull valve downstream of the septic tank, and
run a new line to a new absorption area. This will leave the existing absorption area
functional, and will provide a means to alternate flow to each system, and allow the systems
to recover. It is also recommended that the septic tank be pumped, if it has not been already.
A distribution box is preferred over a splitter tee - (pipe tee), however, if Eagle County does
not want to use a distribution box, a splitter tee can be used.
PROPOSED USE
A four (4) bedroom residential single family house has been constructed at the site.
QUANTITY OF SEWAGE
(4 bedroom house) (2 personibedroom) (75 gpd) (150%) = 900 gpd
SEPTIC TANK SIZE
900 gpd x (30 hours/24 hours per day) = 1125 gallons
The 1250 gallon existing tank is acceptable.
PERCOLATION TESTS, SOIL PROFILE HOLE
The proposed absorption trench is to be relocated approximately 70 feet from the existing
area. The soil profile hole for the original (existing) septic system should also be appropriate
for the new system.
One percolation test was run in the existing fill material (Hole #1), and three were run in the
undisturbed area where the new absorption area is proposed to be located. The percolation
tests were 8, 10, and 20 mpi in the area of the proposed absorption area. 20 mpi will be used
to size the absorption area, (and not the average of the percolation rates).
AREA ABSORPTION FIELD
A - Q/5 T
Use 20 mpi SY A = (900/5) 20 = 805 sf `a`
50% reduction for infiltrators = 403 sf
3 feet wide, length 134 feet
2 trenches, 68.75 feet long (11 units per trench) (minimum required).
CHECK APPLICATION RATE
900 gpd = 1.12 gpd/sf (is less than 1.2 gpd, acceptable)
805 sf
Use two trenches, 68.75 feet long = 137.5 x 3 = 412 sf (proposed)

GENERAL VOTES
1. Contact Alpine Engineering, Inc. at least 43 hours prior to installing any septic system improvement.
2. Compact sewer trenches to 90% standard proctor density, or per soils engineer's recommendations.
3. Compact to 95% standard proctor dcnsiry, below distribution boxes, etc., or per soils engineer's
recommendations.
4. Provide risers on septic tanks to finish grade.
s. Comply with all Eagle County and Colorado Department of Health regulations regrading septic system
installation.
6. Provide inspection portals per Eagle County regulations.
7. Provide minimum s' horizontal distance between trees and sewer lines and septic tanks.
8. Feld align sewer to avoid existing trees, buildings, and structures.
9. Provide 3' minimum cover and 2% minimum slope and 10% maximum slope from building to septic
tank
10. Provide cleanouts at bends.
11. Sewer line to be schedule 40 PVC.
12. Provide 6' minimuat between trenchwalls.
t
13. Provide 5' minimum clear horizontal between trees and sewer pipes and septic tank
14. Install infiltrator system per manufacturer's recommendations and Eagle County Health Department
requirements.
is. Do not begin any sewer construction prior to notification of Alpine Engineering, Inc., Glenn Palmer 926-
3373. The septic system is also to be inspected by Alpine Engineering, Inc prior to back fill: contact
Alpine Engineering, Inc. for this purpose as well.
16. The splitter tee must have equal invert out clevation(s) on all pipes leaving the tee.
17. We recommend that the disposal field be seeded after installation of the subsurface disposal system. A
good native grass cover will promote evapotranspiration from the field. We recommend using a see mix
such as a Foothills, Pasture, or Prairie mix, available at local feed and seed stores. These mires do not
require irrigation and develop a growth 10 to 15 inches high. No automatic sprinkler system should be
installed above the disposal field.
is. The owner must realize an onsite sewage disposal system is considerably. different from public sewer
services. The Owner must be aware of and assume the responsibility for continued maintenance of the
system. We recommend the pumping of the septic tanks at the end of the first year of use to monitor
sludge accumulation and at a minimum of every two years afterward. There arc also daily
considerations, such as not putting plastic or other nonbiodcgradable material down the sewage disposal
system. Also, water use must be carefully monitored so toilets are not allowed, to run when seals
malfunction. To illustrate the point, it should be noted a running toilet will consume in excess of 1000
gallons per day if allowed to run. Excessive loading (such as running toilets) will flood and irrevocably
harm the system, and stress the onsite well.
19. Provide minimum 10' separation between water and sewer lines, or encase per Colorado Department of
C Health Regulations.
20. provide two tics to sewer eteanouts, septic tank. and absorption trench corners. as requir_d by EaZ!c
- County for as-builts.
21. Septic system approval is conditional upon receipt of as -built information.

RE: Final approval of septic repair permit OWTS-11-15-13794; Tax parcel #210507102001;
Property location: 1003 Lake Creek, Edwards area
Mr. Wessell:
This letter is to inform you that the above-referenced septic pipe repair and replacement permit
has been inspected and finalized. This permit was approved and sized for a total capacity for 8
bedrooms. Additional information about the maintenance your septic system needs can be
accessed through web site links provided on the Environmental Health Department’s home page
at http://www.eaglecounty.us/envHealth/
Be aware that changes in the use of your property or alterations of your building may
require commensurate changes to, or relocation of, your septic system. Landscape features,
trees with tap roots, irrigation systems and parking areas above the drain field can cause
premature system failure. It is equally important that you notice and immediately repair
dripping faucets and hissing toilets as this will certainly cause the system to fail. By
following a few simple guidelines, like avoiding grease or other additives down the drain and
making sure your septic tank is on a pumping schedule, your system has been designed to
last for many years.
If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact us at (970) 328-8755 and
reference the OWTS septic permit number.
Sincerely,
Terri Vroman

Re: Septic System Repairs OWTS Permit # 11-15-13794
1003 Lake Creek Road Septic System
Eagle County, Colorado
Dear Mr. Wessell:
Following is the report for the inspection of the repairs on the subject septic system on
Lot 1, Lake Creek Farm, 1003 Lake Creek Road, Edwards, Eagle County, Colorado.
The system was designed by LKP Engineering, Inc. and finalized by Luiza Petrovska,
P.E. per their 9-13-2007 as -built sketch.
Following pipe video by PSI, Inc. in 2015, a permit was issued by Eagle County
Department of Environmental Health for the repair of broken pipe, settlement of
specified areas of pipe, leaking manhole rings, and septic tank leakage in the rear
septic tank ("B"). Refer to stamped drawing, 06-06-2016. All work not listed on the
drawing was excluded and deemed functioning properly at time of permitting.
The pipe patch on Line "A" was performed by PSI (Plumbing Systems Inc.) on
November 10, 2015, and was deemed a success by them. See current video.
Additionally, PSI returned on May 26, 2016 to re -video all lines on the subject drawing.
That video is provided separately (USB). An unknown mark in the pipe was viewed in
the video, and subsequently excavated and found to be just the pipe magnification at a
joint where Comcast had bored through the pipe, and BCI had patched in 2015.
Regardless, the pipe was not damaged, and verified on -site by Turi Olson. The
excavation was back -filled and compacted as required.
Additional video was performed on unknown pipes in the HVAC enclosure and found to
be connected as shown on the drawing, with the exception of one open pipe abandoned
as a downspout drain, ending in gravel dry well.
All work was completed as shown on the drawing and itemized in the sheet notes of
Sheet SS1. The subject septic lines were tested (flushing toilets) and found to be
without any defects — flows well.
It is recommended to pump the septic tanks on a 2-3 years basis per regulations, and to
avoid over irrigation of the back lawn area and restrict heavy traffic over pipes and
manholes.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
Brock Consulting, LLC

1) In July, the property was under contract to sell from the owner to a prospective buyer. I was contracted to
provide a letter and observation of the existing OWTS assuring the prospective buyer that the system met the
current Regulation 64 and reasonable engineering practices and design.
2) In performing my due diligence, I obtained the pictures and drawings of the original permit from
Environmental Health on permit 2608-07. In addition, I obtained an as -built sketch from LKP Engineering dated
September 13, 2007. Furthermore, I obtained a copy of a letter from LKP dated December 1, 2008 stating that
the OWTS was installed in overall compliance with the septic system design (by LKP).
3) From those assurances in QA/QC by LKP, I performed septic tank observation (reveal inside), septic tank
pumping (by Yuck Truck, Inc.) because the tanks had not been pumped since installation, and videoed all
exterior septic lines.
4) From the video services performed by PSI (Plumbing Systems, Inc.), we a observed broken or "pulled joint"
in one location, and settlement at two other pipe locations. With that, we observed the west 1,000 gallon septic
tank to be leaking around the top ring with ground water seeping in at a minimal amount.
5) From these observations, the seller obtained a second video from another septic installer/roto rooter outside
of Eagle County and not a licensed engineer or installer, to be verified. Their proposal was to perform a few pipe
patches and spot fixes of the lines.
6) The summation of all this due diligence is that Brock Consulting is proposing to repair the lines and septic
tank as shown on the on the drawing stamped and submitted. The work will not include any changes or
improvements to the absorption leach field or chambers, or the overall slope of the pipes that the system is
subject to.
Your attention to this is appreciated.
Please respond if further clarification is needed.
