AGREEMENT FOR "AUTOMATIC AID" BETWEEN:
GREATER EAGLE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT,
GYPSUM FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT,
EAGLE RIVER FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT,
VAIL FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES
AND
EAGLE COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT FIRE DEPARTMENT
THIS AGREEMENT is made and entered this ,T, day of November 2004, by
all fire service providers within the Eagle River Valley.
WHEREAS, for the mutual protection of life and property and to provide for
more efficient use of all available personnel and equipment both in the areas served by
each fire district or department and subject to the Mutual Aid Agreement filed of record
between all parties, these parties mutually agree to the following:
1. RESPONSE AREA
A. Upon notification through emergency communications of a structure
fire in Gypsum, Greater Eagle and Eagle River shall automatically
respond into Gypsum Fire Protection District.
B. Upon notification through emergency communications of a structure
fire in Eagle, Gypsum and Eagle River shall automatically respond
into Greater Eagle Fire Protection District.
C. Upon notification through emergency communications of a structure.
fire in Eagle Rivers District, Greater Eagle and Vail shall
automatically respond into Eagle Rivers District.
D. Upon notification through emergency communications of a structure
fire in Vail, Eagle River shall automatically respond into the Town of
Vail.
E. Upon notification through emergency communications of a fire or
plane incident at Eagle County Airport, Gypsum and Greater Eagle
shall automatically respond to the Eagle County Regional Airport.
2. Each shall normally assign no less then three (3) firefighters per engine or
ladder, and one (1) firefighter per tanker or tender responding to areas of
automatic aid, but beyond that requirement, the amount and type of equipment
and number of personnel to be furnished shall be determined by the Incident
Commander (IC) of the host department. The host department shall be the
requesting agency who will receive automatic aid.
3. All departments shall hold a minimum of (1) half -day joint training session
per year, to familiarize personnel with each other's equipment.

4. Each department will attempt to obtain the information necessary to complete
their fire incident reports, and shall exchange such information as needed. In
addition, information pertaining to insurance, statistics for fire loss data, arson
investigation, etc. shall be obtained from the host department.
5. All departments shall respond with equipment required by the respective
departments' Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG).
6. All departments will cooperate during fire scene investigation in a manner to
be determined on a case -by -case basis, reporting to the host department.
7. Incident Command will be established and shall be utilized at all times for
activities under this agreement.
8. That portion of this agreement that directly relates to any of the department's
abilities to respond to alarms in Automatic Aid shall have priority over any
agreement which may now exist, subject to both the individual obligations of
the respective departments and the terms and conditions of the Mutual Aid
Agreement filed of record between all parties.
9. No major changes affecting the ability of any department's response shall be
made without prior notification of the other departments; however temporary
unavailability of equipment shall not be considered as requiring notice to any
other department.
10. The Fire Chiefs of all districts and municipalities shall review this agreement
annually.
11. TERM: This agreement shall be effective from the data of approval by the
governing parties of all fire districts or municipalities, and shall continue until
terminated by parties assigned to this agreement.
12. Any dispatching of equipment and personnel pursuant to this agreement is
subject to the following conditions:
A. The responding organizations shall report to the Incident
Commander (IC) at the location to which the equipment is
dispatched.
B. The IC shall release a responding organization when the
services of the responding organization are needed within
the area for which it normally provides fire protection.
C. A responding organization need not dispatch equipment or
personnel if conditions in the responding organization's fire

protection are such that adequate fire protection cannot be
supplied and if unable to provide equipment or personnel,
shall so inform requesting organization as soon as
practicable.
13. Each party waives all claims against every other party for compensation for
any loss, damage, personal injury, or death occurring as a consequence of the
performance of this agreement.
14. No party shall be reimbursed by any other party for any costs incurred
pursuant to this agreement.
15. Under the terms of this agreement, no real estate or personal property shall, in
any manner, be acquired, held or disposed of.
16. This agreement may be canceled at any time by any participating department
by serving ninety (90) days written notice.
The provisions of this agreement shall become effective by due passage and
publication of an appropriate act or resolution and approved by each fire district
or municipal governing board. z-y"-I I
