Dear Ray:
On July 28, 1994, HCE personnel observed the visible construction of the individual sewage
disposal system located at the above noted location, in Eagle County, Colorado. The septic tank
which was of precast concrete, was visible. The sand filters/mounds were constructed and the
siphon dosing chamber was in place. The distribution box was also in place and an area
approximately five feet square had been compacted for its base.
The sand filters/mounds were slightly oversized, a couple of feet in either direction. They were
also constructed deeper than envisioned. However, the excavation showed very little bedrock,
contrary to what the soils report indicated. The Contractor said that no bedrock was encountered
at the bed depth, the part that showed on the uphill side cut had been cut through and there was

Incidentally, Scott Parks and I have discussed the design flow for this system, and Scott intends
to install a meter on the washer supply line and downsize it, if necessary, to control flow into
the system.

As requested, we co:ilducted percolation testing at the above referenced sites.
A. profile pit was du;:,; at each site prior to our arrival. The logs of the pits are presented in
Fig. 1. The comfort station soils consist of sand and clay naa.n-placed fi.11. The subsoils at
the maintenance facility consist of 2 1/2 feet of topsoil and silty clayey sand above
sandstone-siltstone 1°jdrock.
The percolation test .results for the comfort station are presented in Table 1. Percolation
testing was not conducted at the maintenance facility due to the shallow bedrock. The
comfort station site should be suitable for a conventional infiltration septic disposal
system. We expect that the high percolation rate at P-2 is localized and not representative
due to the fill condition. Wetting of the fill could cause differential settlement of the
Subsoils. Additional profile holes are recommended at the maintenance facility to locate
adequate soil depth. A civil engineer should design the system.
