Box 1237 Vail, CO 81658 Dear Marka, (Lk 4- 0 /LLc =A lot1g3 Eagle County Building P.O. Box 179 500 Broadway Eagle, Colorado 81631-0179 All loan inspections are completed under the authority of the Eagle County Building Resolution, Section 3.09.03, B(6), adopted by the Eagle County Commissioners on October 8, 1985, amended June 23, 1992. A review of Eagle County records indicates that the original Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS), Permit #470, was finally inspected on 10/08/81. The system consisted of two 1000 gallon septic tanks, with two 900 square foot leach fields. It was originally recommended that each half of the duplex have completely separate sewage disposal systems. However, the duplex was built with one building sewer, split between two 1000 gallon tanks. This system was originally designed and should be adequate to accommodate up to 3 bedrooms per dwelling unit. There have been two subsequent repairs on this system. The first repair was completed on 11/08/93, under ISDS Permit #1294, and consisted of leveling the building sewer "Y" connection enabling equal flow between the two tanks and connecting the leach fields together, as one leach field was receiving most of the flow from both dwellings. This repair was done in late fall with the understanding that the system should be re-evaluated in the spring. ISDS Permit #1364, was finally approved on 6/02/94. This repair consisted of installing a new absorption area via thirty-one Infiltrator units installed in two trenches, providing 1125 square feet of leach field. A diversion valve was installed near the septic tanks, to unable the effluent -to be channeled to either of the absorption areas. Therefore, there currently exist two absorption areas which can be alternated should either show signs of fatigue. Ms. Marka Brenner September 29, 1995 Page 2 During a site visit on September 27, 1995, I noted the septic tanks appeared to be functioning properly. However, because the building sewer's flow is split between the two septic tanks, fluid levels should be checked frequently to verify equal flow to both tanks. This is critical because wastewater must be adequately retained in the tank environment to accomplish proper solids settlement and primary treatment. The older, upper leach field was not in use at the time of inspection. The inspection portals in the newer, leach field revealed effluent in both trenches. The ground mounded at the end of the lower, or second trench showed signs of being fatigued. We recommend the flow be diverted back to the old leachfield to allow the area to rest and to check the "T" connection between trenches for being level. It is recommended on ISDS Permit #1364, that not only the septic tanks levels be checked yearly, but also the trench effluent levels, to insure even distribution. The system appears to be functioning properly at this time. Obviously this does not ensure the continued satisfactory functioning of the system. Due to the history at this site, in addition to the nature of repairs, added attention needs to be given by the homeowner to prevent serious system failure. The water supply to this residence is from Lake Creek Meadows, a community water system. Community water systems are inspected on a regular basis by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment.
