BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO
RESOLUTION NO. 90 -
RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSED CHANGES
IN THE FOREST SERVICE REGULATIONS
COVERING LOCAL TIMBER SALES
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the County of
Eagle, State of Colorado (hereinafter referred'to as the "Board "),
supports the concept of multiple use of national forests; and
WHEREAS, local timber sales are an important part of multiple
use and the local economy in Eagle County and all of Western
Colorado; and
WHEREAS, the accounting system proposed by the Forest Service
to be used for determining the feasibility of local timber sales
threatens local timber sales;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO:
THAT, the Board supports the concept of multiple use for
national forests in Eagle County and Western Colorado.
THAT, local timber sales constitute an important part of the
economy of Eagle County and Western Colorado and should be
continued.
THAT, the present system of local timber sales is an important
forest management tool.
THAT, the Board opposes the proposed system which the Forest
Service intends to utilize in determining the feasibility of local
timber sales on the grounds that said accounting system unfairly
assesses inappropriate costs to the timber sales and fails to take
into consideration the benefits of such sales to overall forest
management.
THAT, the Board finds, determines, and declares that this
Resolution is necessary for the public health, safety and welfare
of the residents of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado.
