Box 894 Avon, CO 81620 Re: Septic System Inspection Lot 9, Pilgrim Downs Filing No. 7 Project No. 92209G Dear Jerry: The installation of the septic system on Lot 9, Pilgrim Downs Filing No. 7, Eagle County, Colorado was inspected in several stages between June 14 and June 17, 1993. The system was built in general conformance with our design drawing, as follows: The trenches for the Infiltrator Chambers were dug down into the permeable soil below the firm reddish -brown, clay layer. Ten chambers were placed in the higher trench and eleven chambers into the lower trench. The trenches followed the natural contours of the site. The higher trench was cut down 6 to 8 feet and the lower 3 to 6 feet. The first chambers in each of the trenches were connected with a serial distribution. In each of the last chambers an inspection pipe was installed, extending about one foot above the finished ground. Two 1,000-gallon concrete septic tanks were installed in series, instead of the recommended 1,800 gallon, two compartment septic tank. Solid,' 4-inch PVC pipe was used to connect the building sewer to the first tank, to the second tank and to the first Infiltrator Chamber. Two cleanouts were also installed; one near the building and one midway between the septic tank and the leachfield area. It was recommended, on site, to remove the clayey backf ill and use clean gravel around the pipe and around the septic tanks, up to the inverts of the inlet and outlet pipes. DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AN INDIVIDUAL SANITARY f`NZE7 SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEM LOT 9, PILGRIM DOWNS FILING NO. 7 PREPARED FOR DONALD & DONNA BAUMGARTNER C/o BECK & ASSOCIATES P.O. BOX 4030 VAIL, CO 81658 0 0 O PROJECT NO. 92209G = ;4 6 6 '; AUGUST 1992 REVISED SEPTEMBER 1992 Box No. 978 • Avon, Colorado 81620 • 949-5072 Denver 893-1531 1420 Vance Street • Lakewood, Colorado 80215 • Phone: 232-0158 I SCOPE This report incorporates the results of percolation tests and provides design recommendations for an individual sanitary sewage disposal system for Lot 9, Pilgrim Downs Filing No. 7, Eagle County, Colorado. SITE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION The site is located in unincorporated Eagle County, southwest of Edwards, Colorado. The 15.15 acre lot is heavily wooded and generally drains to the east. The slope in the vicinity of the septic system is 14 to 22 percent. SOIL PROFILE The soil profile consisted of 1.5 feet of dark brown topsoil with cobbles followed by 2.5 feet of reddish -brown clay with cobbles with the remainder of the 8 foot hole consisting of a yellowish -tan to reddish silty clay with cobbles. Bedrock or groundwater was not encountered. PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS Percolation test were performed in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Eagle County Requirements for Individual Sewage Disposal. Results of our test are as follows: Test Hole Minutes/1" Drop 1 150 F 14 3 3 Average time for a 1" drop: 8.3 minutes using only test hole 2 & 3 results. Percolation test number 1 was conducted in the reddish -brown clay, which is above the more permeable silty clay. For this reason the percolation rate of 150 min/inch was not included in the average. DISCUSSION Several alternative systems were considered for the disposal of the effluent. They included a conventional leach field, an absorption trench system, and a chambered leach field system. The infiltrator standard chamber system is recommended. 3 DESIGN CRITERIA A single kfamily residence is planned for this site. The house srX will have -five bedrooms. The system is herein designed in accordance with the procedures outlined in the Eagle County Regulations The following criteria will be used: Occupancy = 2 persons per bedroom Average Flow = 75 gallons per person per day (GPCD) Peak Flow = 150% of average flow Percolation Rate =min/in DESIGN CALCULATIONS Average Flow: Q = 2 persons x 's bedrooms x 75 GPCD Q = 7-5-0 gallons per day (GPD) qoo Peak Flow: Q00 Qp = 1-39 GPD x 150% ( Qp = 5' GPD Septic Tank: i3.S"d The septic tank is sized for 30 hrs. detention. v e350 1683 & i1-2-s gal/day X 1 day X 30 hrs. _ gallons 24 hrs 196O The Eagle County Regulations require a minimum of 15-90- gallon tank for a bedroom residence. Absorption Area Required: Area = 1125 8.3 5 _ t2M s . f . -772 w 4 An Infiltrator System, with a standard infiltrator chamber (30 x 6 1/4' x 110) is recommended. Allowable reduction of 50% for the use of the infiltrator standard chambers in a trench configuration can be applied. Required Absorption Area = r6V8's.f. 50% 4 s.f. 39 One standard infiltrator chamber has 18.75 sq. ft. of 1 absorption area. For 32-4 as.f. of absorption area. > or +8- chambers are needed. The chambers should be laid in 2 trenches, chambers in each, at minimum distance of 6 feet between the trenches. The absorption leachfield consisting of the Infiltrator standard chambers must be constructed within the yellowish -tan silty clay with cobbles. A representative of this office should be called to inspect the leachfield soils when the excavation is completed. SEPTIC SYSTEMS RECOMMENDATIONS Based on the prdceeding calculations, it is recommended that r gob a 4 gallon two compartment septic tank be used. The effluent 1 v // will be disposed of by absorption in two trenches with %5 infiltrator standard chambers in each. One clean -out port should be installed at approximately 50 feet from the septic tank. Details of the proposed system are shown on the enclosed drawings. An inspection of the system should be made by a. representative of 5 Inter -Mountain Engineering, Ltd. prior to back filling, the installation and material specifications must comply with the Eagle County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations and the manufacturer's recommendations. CONCLUSIONS: This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Donald & Donna Baumgartner for the specific application to the proposed single family home on Lot 9, Pilgrim Downs Filing No. 7, Eagle County, Colorado. The findings and recommendations of this report have been obtained in accordance with accepted professional engineering practices. There is no other warranty either expressed or implied. call.
