The high ground water level appears to be resulting from flood irrigation. The irrigation ditch on the site, nearest the proposed absorption trench area, has a flowline elevation of 78., per topographic map prepared by Eagle Valley Surveying. The existing ground surface near the proposed absorption trench area is elevation 84 to 86. This means that the high groundwater elevation from irrigation is 86 - 68 = 6' to 8' below the existing ground level. Observation of the soil profile hole by Dick Dennison, the general contractor for the project, indicates that the highest groundwater level is 6.5' below existing ground, which is consistent with the flowline elevation of the irrigation ditch. . The infiltrator units require a minimum of l foot bury (to existing ground), and are 1.5' deep. Thus, the bottom of the infiltrator unit is 2.5' below ground, which is elevation 82. If the high groundwater elevation is 78, the bottom of the infiltrator must be elevation 82 (4'.above groundwater), which it is proposed to be. A subsurface drain is proposed to be located around the absorption trenches, to make sure that the high groundwater elevation cannot be higher than elevation 78. MINIMUM HORIZONTAL DISTANCES FROM ABSORPTION TRENCH 100' TO WELL 25' TO WATER LINE 20' TO BUILDING 10' TO PROPERTY LINE 50' TO IRRIGATION DITCHES A10' TO SEPTIC TANK Per Eagle County Regulations, the septic tank, dosing tanks, and effluent_. lines are to be located 50' from irrigation ditches. CIt is not clear whether the proposed sewage grinder and sewage pump would be classified as a ,septic tank or dosing tank./. The unit is proposed to be a sealed unit (fiberglass), so that it should not leak. The unit has been purchased already, and has a maximum bury of 3', which makes it difficult to locate anywhere except next to the building, which is within 50' of an existing irrigation ditch. The irrigation ditch can be lined, if need edThe sewage pump unit is also proposed to be located below the flowline of the irrigation ditch, so if somehow the unit did leak, effluent could not drain upwards to the irrigation ditch. The owner would like to obtain a variance for the pump location, if a variance is needed. Box 1237 Vail, CO 81658 Dear Carol, 500 BROADWAY P.O. BOX 179 EAGLE. COLORADO 31631 FAX (303) 325.7207 RE: Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS), and water well inspection for property located at: 0397 Lake Creek Road, Tax parcel #2105-064-05-001. All loan inspections are completed under the authority of the Eagle County Building Resolution, Section 3.09.03, B(6), adopted by the Eagle County Commissioners on October 8, 1985, amended June 23, 1992. On September 17, 1993, this department conducted a site inspection of the above referenced property. The inspection was requested by you for the purpose of evaluating the existing condition of the on -site ISDS and water well. The site visit conducted reveled no visible sign of ISDS failure. Obviously, this does not guarantee the continued satisfactory performance of the system. A review of Eagle County records indicates that permit application #1048 was never issued, nor was a final inspection performed. Therefor, it is unknown what the ISDS consists of for the above mentioned property. The water supply to this residence is from Lake Creek Meadows, a community water system. The community water system is inspected on a regular basis by the Colorado Department of Health and to the best of our knowledge complies with current drinking water standards. If you have any further questions concerning this inspection, please feel free to call me at 328-8755 or write. We recommend using a seed mix such as a 'Foothills, Pasture, or Prairie- sixes available at local feed and seed stores. These mixes do not require irrigation and develop a growth 10 to IS inches high. 'No automatic sprinkler system should be installed above the disposal field. Operation and maintenance plan , The owner must realise an onsito swage disposal system is considerably J different from public sewer services. The owner must be aware of and assume the responsibility for continued maintenance of the system. We recommend the pumping of the septic tanks at the end of the first year of use to monitor sludge accumulation and at a minimum of every 2 years afterward. There are also daily considerations, such as not putting plastic or other nonbiodogradable material down the swage disposal system. Also, rater use must be carefully monitored so toilets are not allowed to run when seals malfunction. To illustrate the point, it should be noted a running toilet will consume in excess of 1000 gallons per day if allowed to run. _-gxcessiva loading (such as from running toilets) will flood and irrevocably bars the system, and stress the onaite well. _ We also caution you against installation of a water softener. The high levels of salt from the backwash of a water softener is detrimental to all onaito sewage disposal systems and a separate drywall should be constructed' for the backwash waste if a water softener is installed. No landscaping or plastic can _ be installed over the disposal field which will reduce evapotranspiration frog = the field. f I I j F - F i _ F NCTES 1.
