PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS AND SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LOT 7, FILING 4, PILGRIM DOWNS EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO PREPARED FOR: MR. ED SCHENCK III PROJECT NO. 90357E SEPTEMBER 1990 Box No. 978 • Avon, Colorado 81620 • 949-5072 Denver 893-1531 1420 Vance Street • Lakewood, Colorado 80215 9 Phone: 232-0158 t_. Prm-L=14i7ttS: thµ zesUlts of percolation 'tests and. provides :peptic system recommendations for the proposed single family residence on Lot 7, Pilgrim Downs Filing No. 4- Eagle County, Colorado. ?.E I1JEST I GAT 1_QI This site was investigated and five percolation tests were dug to a minimum depth of 27 inches. Holes were presoaked and percolation tests performed. Results of these tests are included in this report; see PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS. =E LOCATION ACID DE SCRIPT I OLD The site is located on Pilgrim Drive in Pilgrim Downs Subdivision in Eagle County, Colorado. The site of the absorption trenches slopes to the northeast at approximately 20%. Drainage in the area of the proposed absorption trenches is to the northeast. Vegetation consists of grasses. SUBSURFACE AND GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS Subsurface conditions in the proposed leach field area are relatively uniform, and consist of 1 1/2 foot of topsoil underlain by silty, sandy, clayey loam to a depth of 8 feet. No groundwater was encountered during excavation. 3 PERCOLATION TEST NE: t IL S A total of five percolation tests were performed on the site_ Results were as follows: Test Hole M n11 " Drop Date of Teat Ambient Air Tem-,- 1 24 9/16/90 80 2 30 9/16/90 80 3 24 9/16/90 80 4 60 9/16/90 80 5 9/16/90 80 Average time for 1 inch drop = 35.6 minutes DESIGN CRITERIA A single-family residence has been proposed for this site for year-round use. The residence will have a total of five (5) bedrooms, and will be equipped with a garbage disposer and automatic clothes washing machine. Thus design criteria for calculations are: 2 persons/bedroom 75 gallons/person/day-average flow +20% absorption area for garbage disposer +40% absorption area for automatic washer -25% absorption area for dosing tank - Maximum flow: 150% of average flow CALCULATIONS A= 0 Where A= minimum absorption area (sq. ft.) Q= maximum quantity of sewage flow (gal/day) T= percolation rate (min/inch) Q= 5 x 2 x 75 x 1.5 = 1125 gal/day A= Q = 1125 6 = 1343 sq. ft. 5 5 4 +1343 sq. ft_ +267 sq. ft.(disposal +20%) +537 sq. ft-(washer +40%) -336 sq. ft.(dosing 2 %) 1811 sq. ft. absorption area From table 5, a minimum area of 300 sq. ft. per bedroom is required. (300 x 5 = 1500 sq. ft., which is less than the 1811 sq. ft. from the previous calculation.) Minimum area of absorption trench is 1811 sq. ft. If Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc. SB2 10 inch "gravel -less" leach bed tubing is used, one lineal foot of pipe is required for each three square feet of absorption trench area: thus 606 Clineal feet is required. From Table 4 (section 4.07.01 of the Eagle County Regulations), a 1500 gallon septic tank is required. Based on the preceding calculations it is recommended to - install a 1500-gallon compartmented septic tank followed by a minimum 1811 square foot seepage trench. The seepage trench should lie a minimum of 10 feet from all property lines and 20 feet from the proposed residence. An inspection of the system should be made by a representative of the Eagle County Environmental .Health Department prior to backfilling. The installation and material specifications must comply with the Eagle County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations. 5 As an alternative to the standard 1811 square foot seepage trench, 606 lineal feet of SB2 10-inch diameter "gravel -less" leach bed tubing (as manufactured by Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc.) can be embedded in the native soils of the site. A dosing chamber with siphon will be installed. The dosing chamber will allow for periodic high rate discharge to the field. This will prolong the life of the drainage field. The dose discharge should be approximately 600 gallons. CONCLUSIONS This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Mr. Ed Schenck III for the specific application to the proposed single-family residence on Lot 7, Filing 4, Pilgrim Downs• Eagle County, Colorado. The findings and recommendations of this report have been obtained in accordance with accepted professional engineering practices. There is no other warranty, either expressed or implied.
