Environmental Health Officer RH/alm Wnter-Mountain Engineering Ltd, PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS AND SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE N1/2 NEi/A NEi/4 SEC 30, T5S R82W, OF THE 6TH P.M. EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO PREPARED FOR: MR. GUY PARKER PROJECT NO. 90367 SEPTEMBER 1990 Box No. 978 • Avon, Colorado 81620 • 949-5072 Denver 893-1531 1420 Vance Street 9 Lakewood, Colorado 80215 9 Phone: 232-0158 SCOPE This report presents the results of percolation tests and provides septic system recommendations for the proposed single family residence in the N1/2 NEz/4 NE1!4 Sec 30, R82W, T5S of the 6th P.M. Eagle County, Colorado. SITE INVESTIGATION This site was investigated and three percolation tests were dug to a minimum depth of 27 inches. Holes were presoaked and percolation tests performed. Results of these tests are included in this report; see PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS. SITE LOCATIQN AND DESCRIPTION The site is located on West Lake Road in Eagle County, Colorado. The site of -the absorption trenches slopes to the northeast at approximately 5%. Drainage in the area of the proposed absorption trenches is to the northeast. Vegetation consists of grasses. SUBSURFACE AND GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS Subsurface conditions in the proposed leach field"area are relatively uniform, and consist of 1 1/2 foot of topsoil underlain by silty, sandy, clayey loam to a depth of 8 feet. No groundwater was encountered during excavation. 3 PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS A total of three percolation tests were performed on the site. Results were as follows: Test Hole Min _L' Dro-P Uat_.9 2 5 Amb.i_(-_x_t_A.ix___T_=P_ 1 24 9/9/90 80 2 40 9/9/90 80 3 15 9/9/90 80 Average time for 1 inch drop = 26.3 minutes DESIGN CRITERIA A single-family residence has been proposed for this site for year-round use. The residence will have a total of four (4) bedrooms, and will be equipped with a garbage disposer and automatic clothes washing machine. Thus design criteria for C\ calculations are: 2 persons/bedroom 75 gallons/person/day-average flow +20% absorption area for garbage disposer +40% absorption area for automatic washer -25% absorption area for dosing tank Maximum flow: 150% of average flow CALL A=T Where A= minimum absorption area (sq. ft.) 5 Q= maximum quantity of sewage flow (gal/day) T= percolation rate (min,/inch) Q= 4 x 2 x 75 x 1.5 = 900 gal/day A= C % = 9001/ 26.3 = 923 sq. f t . 5 5 +923 sq. ft. +184 sq. ft.(disposal +20%) +369 sq. ft.(washer +40%) -230 sa. ft.(dosing -25%) 1246 sq. ft. absorption area - 4 From table 5, a minimum area of 2bO sq- ft_ per bedroom is required. (250-x 4 = 1000 sq. ft., which is less than 1246 sq_ ft.) Minimum area of absorption trench is 1.246 sq. ft. If Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc_ SB2 10 inch "gravel -less" leach bed tubing is used, one lineal foot of pipe is required :for each three square feet of absorption trench area: thus 415 lineal feet is required. From Table 4 (section 4.07.01 of the Eagle County Regulations), a 1250 gallon septic tank is required. SEPTIC SYSTEMS RECOMMENDATIONS Based on the proceeding calculations it is recommended. to install a 1250-gallon compartmented septic tank followed by a minimum 1246 square foot seepage trench. The seepage trench should lie a minimum of 10 feet from all property lines, 20 .feet from the proposed residence, and 50 feet from West Lake Creek. An inspection of the system should be made by a representative of the Eagle County Environmental Health Department prior to backfilling. The installation and material specifications must comply with the Eagle County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations. As an alternative to the standard 1246 square foot seepage trench, 415 lineal feet of SB2 10-inch diameter "gravel -less" leach bed tubing (as manufactured by Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc.) can be embedded in the native soils of the site. A dosing chamber with siphon will be installed. The dosing L5 chamber will allow for periodic high rate discharge to the field_ This will prolong the life of the drainage field. CONCLUSIONS This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Mr_ Guy Parker for the specific application to the proposed single- family residence in the N1/2 NE1/4 NE1/4 of Sec 30, T5S,1 R82W of the 6th P.M., Eagle County, Colorado. The findings and recommendations of this report have been obtained in accordance with accepted professional engineering practices. There is no other warranty, either expressed or implied.
