SITE INVESTIGATION The site was investigated and percolation tests were performed by the Eagle County Health Department on January 16, 1987. Results of these tests were used I to calculate absorption areas. A copy of the percolation test report dated January 16, 1987, by Erik Edeen is attached as part of this report. SITE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION The site is located on the west side of West Squaw Creek Road, approximately 200 feet south of its junction with Squaw Creek Road. The septic tank and absorption area is located to the west of the house between the house and West Squaw Creek Road. See Sheet 1 of 1 which is a part of this report. The location was selected by the owner. A 2 DESIGN CRITERIA A single family residence has been proposed for this site for year-round use. The residence will have two (2) bedrooms and will be equipped with a garbage disposer and automatic clothes washing machine. Thus design criteria for calculations are: 2 persons/bedroom 75 gallons/person/day - average flow +25% absorption area for garbage disposer +40% absorption area for automatic washer Design flow = 150% of average flow CALCULATIONS A = Q!CT- where A = minimum absorption area (sq.ft.) Q = design flow (gal/day) T = percolation rate (min/inch) Q= 2 x 2 x 75 x 1.5 = 450 gal/day A = 450 10 = 285 sq. ft. 5 +57 sq. ft. (+20% for disposer) +114 sq. ft. (+40% for washer) 456 sq. ft. total absorption area If Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc., SB2 10 inch gravel -less leach bed tubing is used, 1 lineal foot of pipe is required for each 3 square feet of absorption trench; thus 152 lineal feet is required. From Table 4 (Section 4.07.01 of the Eagle County Regulations), a 750 gallon septic tank is required. 3 SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS Based on the preceding calculations, it is recommended to install a 750 gallon compartmented septic tank equipped with dual operating automatic dosing siphons. These siphons will allow for dosing of alternating areas in the absorption area, prolonging the life of the drainage field. The septic tank will be followed by a minimum 456 square foot seepage trench. The.seepage trench should be a minimum of 10 feet from all property lines, and 20 feet from the proposed residence. An inspection of the system should be made by a representative of,the Eagle County Environmental Health Department prior to backfilling. The installation and material specifications must comply with the Eagle County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations. As an alternate to the standard 456 square feet of seepage trench, 152 lineal feet of 10-inch diameter gravel -less leach bed tubing (as manufactured by American Drainage System, Inc.) could be embedded in the native soils of the site. This alternative would probably be cost-effective. It is also recommended that the owner consider over - sizing the septic system to accommodate the future addition of 2 bedrooms in the unfinished attic portion of the house. Following are calculations for this over -sizing: 4 SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS - continued I Q= 4 x 2 x 75 x 1.5 = 900 gal/day A = 9005 10 = 570 sq. ft. +114 sq. ft. (+20% for disposal) +228 sq. ft. (+40% for washer) 912 sq. ft. total absorption trench If 10-inch SB2 "gravel -less" leach bed tubing is used: 912 - 3 = 304 lineal feet required. From Table 4, a 1250 gallon septic tank is required. CONCLUSIONS This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Morrie and Suzie Shepard for the specific application to the proposed residence at Lot 1, Shepard Subdivision, on West Squaw Creek Road in Eagle County, Colorado. The calculations in this report are based in part on information furnished to us by others. The findings and recommendations of this report have been obtained in accor- dance with accepted professional engineering practices. There is no other warranty, either expressed or implied.
