V-7142E OCTOBER 1987 Box No. 978 Avon, Colorado 81620 949-5072 Denver 893-1 531 tigR) 1420 Vance Street Lakewood, Colorado 80215 Phone: 232-01 58 SCOPE This report presents the results of percolation tests and provides septic system recommendations for the proposed House 1 and House 2 Duplex at Lot 36, Cordillera Subdivision Filing No. 2, Eagle County, Colorado. SITE INVESTIGATION The site was investigated on October 25, 1987, and eight percolation test holes were dug to a minimum depth of 30 inches. Holes were presoaked and percolation tests performed on October 26, 1987. Results of these tests are included in this report; see PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS. Also, a test pit was excavated to a depth of 10 feet on October 22, 1987, with a conventional backhoe. A summary of the test pit log is also a part of this report; see Figure No. 1. Locations of the percolation test holes and the test pit are shown on Drawing No. 1. SITE LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION The site is located in a part of Lot 36, Cordillera Subdi- vision Filing No. 2, and Tract G, Cordillera Subdivision Filing No. 2. The site is generally sloping to the south, and vege- tation consists of sage brush. SUBSURFACE AND GROUNDWATER CONDITIONS Subsurface conditions in the proposed leach field area are uniform, and consist of topsoil to a depth of 9 feet, under- lain by very weathered bedrock. Refer to Figure No. 1 for additional information. 2 PERCOLATION TEST RESULTS A total of eight percolation tests were performed on the site as specified by the Eagle County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations. Results were as follows: Test Hola Min/1" Drop Date of Test Ambient Air Temp 1 7.5 10/21/87 50 2 7.1 10/21/87 50 3 8.0 10/21/87 50 4 10.9 10/21/87 50 5 0 10/21/87 50 6 8.0 10/21/87 50 7 7.1 10/21/87 50 8 8.0 10/21/87 50 Average time for 1" drop: 8.1 min. DESIGN CRITERIA A duplex residence has been proposed for this site. The duplex will have a total of seven bedrooms and will be equipped with a garbage disposed and automatic washing machine. Thus design criteria for calculations are: 2 persons/bedroom 75 gallons/person/day - average flow +20% absorption area for garbage disposal +40% absorption area for automatic washer -25% absorption area for dosing tank Maximum flow: 150% of average flow 3 CALCULATIONS A = where A = minimum absorption area (sq.ft.) Q = maximum quantity of sewage flow (gal/day) T = percolation rate (min/inch) Q = 1575 gallons/day A= 1575 ---- = 891 sq. ft. +178 sq. ft. (disposal - +20%) +356 sq. ft. (washer - +40%) -223 sq. ft. (dosing - -25%) 1,203 sq. ft. absorption trench If ABS-SB2 (or equal) system is used, 1 l.f. of SB2 is required for 3 s.f. absorption trench; thus 400 l.f. needed. From Table 4 (Section 7.1.a of the Eagle County Regulations), a 2000 gallon septic tank is needed for seven bedrooms. Dosing tank: Average flow = 7 x 20 x 75 = 1050 gal/day Peak flow = 1.5 x 1050 = 1575 gal/day Size dosing tank for 3 cycles/day .for average flow: 1050/3 = 350 gallons SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS Based on the preceding calculations, it is recommended to install a 2000 gallon compartmented septic tank followed by a minimum 1200 square foot seepage bed. An inspection of the system should be made by a representative of the Eagle County Environ- mental Health Department prior to backfilling. The installation and material specifications must comply with the Eagle County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations. As an alternate to the standard 1200 square foot seepage bed, 400 lineal feet of 10-inch diameter "gravel -less" leach bed tubing (as manufactured by American Drainage Systems, Inc., or equal) could be embedded in the native soils of the site. 4 SEPTIC SYSTEM RECOMMENDATIONS - continued Due to the remoteness of the site, this alternate would probably be cost effective. A dosing chamber is to be installed at this site. The dosing chamber will allow for periodic high rate discharge to fill the drainage field instead of a slow trickle into the field. This will prolong the life of the drainage field. CONCLUSIONS This report has been prepared for the exclusive use of Kensington Land Investment Partners for the specific application to the proposed duplex site at Lot 36, Cordillera Subdivision Filing No. 2, Eagle County, Colorado. The findings and recommendations of this report have been obtained in accordance with accepted professional engineering practices. There is no other warranty, either expressed or implied.
