HomeMy WebLinkAboutR94-038 natioanl victims' rights weekCommission moved adoption of th9 following: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 94 - - 3(� - DECLARING APRIL 24 - 30, 1994 NATIONAL VICTIMS' RIGHTS WEEK WHEREAS, in 1990, over 15,000 people in Colorado were victims of violent crimes, and 184,000 Coloradans were victims of property crime; and WHEREAS, less than 37 percent of all crimes are even reported to law enforcement officials; and WHEREAS, the psychological, financial and physical devastation innocent victims suffer as a result of violence continues to tear at the fabric of our society; and WHEREAS, Colorado has focused greatly needed attention on the needs of crime victims by passing new laws to protect and restore victims' rights; and WHEREAS, 8,000 victim service and criminal justice organizations nationwide will join together to observe the annual commemoration of National Victims' Rights Week from April 24 -30, 1994; and WHEREAS, the Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance (COVA) provides advocacy on behalf of victims' issues; not only during National Victims' rights Week, but throughout the year; and WHEREAS, Eagle County commends the Sheriff's Office Victims' Services Program; the District Attorney's Office; and the Resource Center for their continuing efforts to aid the innocent victims of crime, and supports their many fine programs and services which strive to achieve a new balance between the rights of the accused and the rights of the innocent victims of crime; and NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Colorado Organization for Victim Assistance (COVA); the Sheriff's Office Victims' Services Program; the District Attorney's Office; and Resource Center be commended during 1994 National Victims' Rights Week for providing exemplary services to victims of crime and to the citizens of Eagle county; and THAT, the Board of Commissioners, Eagle County State of Colorado, do hereby designate the week of April 24 -30, 1994 as Eagle County Victims' Rights Week; and THAT, a suitably prepared copy of this resolution be presented during 1994 Eagle County Victims' Rights Week to the Sheriff's Office Victims' Services Program; the District Attorney's Office; and the Resource Center.
