HomeMy WebLinkAboutR97-082 adoption of internet and email policy3 i3 Commissioner moved adoption of the Following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 97 - R(<0_) AUTHORIZING THE ADOPTION OF THE INTERNET AND E -MAIL ACCEPTED USE POLICY WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 30 -11 -107, C.R.S., the Board is empowered to manage the business and concerns of the County in all cases where no other provisions are made by law; and WHEREAS, §24- 72- 204.5, C.R.S., requires that the County adopt a written policy on the accepted use of E -mail and the Internet and specifically requires that the County adopt a written policy on any monitoring of electronic mail communications and the circumstances under which it will be conducted; and WHEREAS, the Board desires to adopt such a policy in accordance with §24 -72- 204.5, C.R.S., which provisions will be incorporated into the existing Personnel Policy at a later date; and WHEREAS, the provisions of the policy on the accepted use of the Internet and E -Mail is forth in Exhibit "A ", attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO: THAT the Board hereby adopts the policy on the accepted use of the Internet and E -Mail as required by 924 -72- 204.5, C.R.S. and as set forth in Exhibit "A" attached hereto and incorporated herein by this reference. County Business includes the use by county employees for county sponsored educational pursuits with the permission of their Department Director. All electronic communications systems and information transmitted by, received from, and stored in these systems is owned or under the custody of Eagle County. An employee can have no expectations of privacy in using this equipment when transmitting, receiving, or storing information, whether on or over the INTERNET or E -Mail. Eagle County may monitor the system at any time at their discretion. Electronic messages or other information stored or sent by County computers may be public records under Colorado law, available to the public for inspection on request. Protecting county information and systems is every employee's responsibility. County employees share a common interest in ensuring information and systems are not intentionally, accidentally or improperly disclosed, lost or misused. Deliberate unauthorized acts against the county, including but not limited to misuse, misappropriation, and destruction of information or systems resources, the deliberate unauthorized use of software or shareware by any employee is prohibited. Eagle County employees have an obligation to use their access to the INTERNET in a responsible and informed way, conforming to network etiquette, customs and courtesies, and representing the county in a positive manner. Use of the Internet or E -mail by a county employee constitutes acknowledgment of this policy. Questions related to the appropriate use of County computers, E -Mail or the Internet should be directed to the Information Systems Supervisor.
