Subject: Percolation Testing, Replacement of Existing Septic System, 4275 Frying
Pan load, Eagle County, Colorado.
Dear Mr. Zamora:
As requested, we have conducted percolation testing at the subject site to provide soil
percolation rates for replacing the existing septic disposal system. The work was done
based on our Professional Services Agreement letter to you dated Marcia 3, 1998.
An 8 foot deep profile pit and three shallow backhoe pits were dug on March 4, 1998.
Percolation test holes were hand dug (about l foot deep by 1 foot in diameter) at the
bottom of the shallow backhoe pits. The test holes were soaked with water and protected
from freezing overnight with rigid foam insulation, The subsoils observed in the profile
pit consist of about l foot of topsoil and 2 %x feet of sandy gravelly silt and clay overlying
relatively dense silty sandy gravel with cobbles to the maximum depth explored, 8 feet.
Results of a gradation analysis performed on the sandy gravel (minus 5 inch fraction) are
shown on Fig. 1. Groundwater was not encountered in the profile pit and the subsoils
were slightly moist.riiL- p6 -`lugL&u*i r1,. -
i rn1
Percolation tests were performed on March 5, 1998 by a representative of Hepworth-
Pawlak Geotechnical, lne. At the time of the tests no frost was observed in the test holes.
The percolation test results (shown on Table I), indicate an infiltration rate between 13
and 30 minutes per inch with an average of 19 minutes per inch.
Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and percolation test results, the tested site
appears suitable for a conventional infiltration septic disposal system. The syst.cm should
be based in the sandy gravel and cobble subsoils.
If you have any questions or if we can be of further assistance, please call our of'lice.

Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) Inspection
4275 Frying Pan Road
Eagle County, Colorado
Christy,
As requested, CBO Inc. performed an Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) inspection at 4275
Frying Pan Road, Basalt, Colorado on September 11, 2019. The legal description of the 8.275-acre
property is as follows:
Subdivision: ADAMS MINOR SUBDIVISION Lot: 1
R806074 MAP 09-04-02
R914098 AFF/DC 04-22-05
R200704180 SWD 02-07-07
Parcel ID: 2467-023-02-004
There are two residences on the property served by two separate OWTSs. The record drawings and
permits (enclosed) were provided by Eagle County Environmental Health Department.
Main House
The subject OWTS consists of one 1250-gallon, two -compartment concrete septic tank followed by a soil
treatment area (STA) comprised of 37 'Standard' Infiltrator® chambers connected serially, with the first
trench having 12 chambers, second trench 11 chambers, third trench 10 chambers, and fourth trench 4
chambers. The OWTS was sized to accommodate 4 bedrooms. Individual Sewage Disposal System
(ISDS) Permit 1759-8 documents this system. The permit received final approval on March 18, 1998.
41
A clean out is located between the house and the septic tank. It is noted in the permit that the cast iron
line from near the house was not replaced at the time this new system was installed. Cast iron is prone to
clogging and deterioration. We recommend this section of line be explored with a camera to better
assess the condition of the old portion of pipe.
The septic tank is located south of the residence. Both septic tank lids were accessible from grade, but
the outlet lid is located under a bush. We recommend removing the bush. Risers bring access to grade,
with 2-feet on the inlet side and 1-foot on the outlet side. Both inlet and outlet tees were present. We
recommend adding an effluent filter to the outlet side of the septic tank. If added, this filter must be
cleaned annually, or as needed.
Liquid levels in the septic tank were normal at the time of our inspection. The septic tank was pumped by
B&R Septic.
We walked the approximate STA and found no evidence of surface saturation or failure at the time of our
inspection. We observed one inspection port in the STA and found that it was dry.

Recommendations:
• Explore section of sewer line near the house that is cast iron to better assess the condition as
cast iron is prone to clogging and deterioration.
• Remove bush growing over septic tank.
• Add effluent filter to outlet side of septic tank. If added, the filter must be cleaned annually, or as
needed.
Guest House
The subject OWTS consists of one 1000-gallon, two -compartment concrete septic tank followed by a soil
treatment area (STA) comprised of 38 'Quick 4' Infiltrator® chambers connected serially. The OWTS
was sized to accommodate 2 bedrooms. Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS) Permit IS-2463-05
documents this system. The permit received final approval on September 19, 2005.
A clean out is located between the house and the septic tank, under the deck. The septic tank is located
on the hillside to the west of the residence. Both septic tank lids were buried but dug up for the
inspection. We recommend adding 6-inches to 1-foot of riser to the outlet side of the septic tank for
better accessibility.
Levels in the septic tank were over -full at the time of our visit. The outlet filter was plugged, and once
pulled, effluent flowed normally out of septic tank. Both inlet and outlet tees were present. The outlet tee
with the filter was angled downward, which is an indication of settling. We recommend repairing this
pipe. The septic tank was pumped by B&R Septic.
We walked the approximate STA and found no evidence of surface saturation or failure at the time of our
inspection. We observed inspection ports in the STA and found that all were dry.
Recommendations:
• Add 6-inches to 1-foot of riser to the outlet side of the septic tank for better accessibility.
• Fix outlet pipe so it is not angled downward out of septic tank.
• Clean effluent filter annually, or as needed.
This evaluation is not a guarantee of future system performance.
Disclaimer. This inspection is intended only as an evaluation of the present condition of the OWTS
based upon what was observed and the Licensed Inspector's expertise in onsite wastewater technology.
The Inspector has not been retained to warrant or guarantee the proper functioning of the system for any
period of time in the future. Because of numerous factors which may affect the operation of an OWTS, W
as well as the inability of the Inspector to supervise or monitor the use or maintenance of this OWTS, this report shall not be construed as a warranty by the Inspector that the system will function properly for any Um
particular prospective buyer, and the Inspector disclaims any warranty, either expressed or implied,
arising from the inspection of the OWTS or this report. The evaluation does not ascertain the impact the
system is having on groundwater.
Please call with questions.
