HomeMy WebLinkAboutR97-035 National County Government WeekCommissioner 2 2�,n.rr2� moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 97- DECLARING THE WEEK OF APRIL 13 -19, 1997 NATIONAL COUNTY GOVERNMENT WEEK WHEREAS, counties trace their roots to the English shire of a thousand years ago. WHEREAS, county government structures today are as diverse as the people they represent. WHEREAS, there are three basic forms of county government - Commission form, Commission - Administrator form, and County Executive form - each having a number of distinguishing variations. WHEREAS, counties provide a wide spectrum of services to their residents, and county employees are proud of the service they provide. WHEREAS, state constitutions legislate the revenue sources counties may pursue to meet their budget requirements and taxes are the primary revenue source for counties. WHEREAS, counties spend more than $140 billion a year in providing highways, police and fire protection, health and welfare services, fairgrounds and airports and dozens of other services for their citizens. WHEREAS, in a recent Gallup poll of U. S. citizens' attitudes toward federal, state and local government, individuals said that local governments gave the most for the money and spent tax dollars most wisely. WHEREAS, it is time for this nation to recognize that it is everyone's responsibility to ensure that our children have the t opportunity to grow in a nurturing environment to become self- `. reliant and productive adults. Children are this country's most valuable resource. WHEREAS, like our children, America's counties are America's future. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO ( "the Board ") : THAT, the Board hereby proclaims the week of April 13 -19, 1997 as National County Government Week. THAT, the Board hereby finds, determines and declares that this Resolution is necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Eagle County. MOVED, READ AND ADOPTED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado, at its regular meeting held the day of 1997.
