HomeMy WebLinkAboutR20-072 Revoking the August 20, 2020 Disaster/Emergency Declaration for the Grizzley Creek Wildfire DocuSign Envelope ID:3D657818-A362-4BF4-9B5D-56ABF7D1 F77D Commissioner McQueeney moved adoption of the following Resolution: BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO.2020-072 RESOLUTION REVOKING THE AUGUST 20,2020 DISASTER/EMERGENCY DECLARATION FOR THE GRIZZLY CREEK AND OTHER WILDFIRES OCCURING IN EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO WHEREAS, on August 10, 2020, the Grizzly Creek Fire began burning in Garfield County, Colorado; and WHEREAS, on August 13, 2020,the County Manager of Eagle County, Colorado ("County Manager") declared a local disaster/emergency with respect to the Grizzly Creek Fire (the"August 13, 2020 Declaration"); and WHEREAS, following the August 13, 2020 Declaration, due to extreme fire conditions, several other wildfires occurred in Eagle County, including the Rube Creek Fire,the Murphy Fire and the Camp Hale Fire, all requiring resources and response from Eagle County fire and emergency crews; and WHEREAS, on August 20, 2020, the County Manager declared a second local disaster/emergency(the"August 20, 2020 Declaration") due to the continued threats from the Grizzly Creek Fire as well as the multiple additional wildfires that had occurred in the County; and WHEREAS, pursuant to C.R.S. 24-33.5-709(1), a local disaster may be declared only by the principal executive officer of a political subdivision and it cannot be continued or renewed in excess of seven days except by or with the consent of the governing board of the political subdivision; and WHEREAS,on August 25, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners of Eagle County, Colorado approved Resolution No. 2020-060, continuing the August 20, 2020 Declaration due to the threat of the Grizzly Creek Fire and the multiple additional wildfires that occurred in the County. Resolution 2020-060 and said declaration were effective until modified, superseded or revoked by further resolution; and WHEREAS, due to the containment of the Grizzly Creek Fire and the other wildfires that occurred in the County, and the corresponding reduction in the need for support for residents of the County,the Board has determined that it is now appropriate to revoke the August 20, 2020 Declaration. THAT, this Resolution shall be promptly filed with the Eagle County Clerk and Recorder and with the Office of Emergency Management. THAT,this Resolution is necessary for the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Eagle County.
