This being a scheduled Public Hearing, the following items were presented to the Board of County
Commissioners for their consideration:
COVID-19 Update
Birch Barron, Emergency Manager, provided an update on the latest COVID-19 trends. He indicated that
the risk level was still in the cautious mode. There had been 52 cases over the past ten days but the cases were
leveling off and the medical system was strong. There was really no amount of messaging that could be done to
limit the disease spread. The vulnerability was testing. Testing supplies and testing was critical but out of the
county's control. The provider's ability to test relied on the availability of tests and tests turnarounds. National
labs had the ability to turnaround testing in 24 to48 hours however, the times had been extended. The State and
National Trends that impact the county remained cautious. Over the past 14 days, 38 states have had an increase in
disease incidence. It was important for people to take responsibility and remain cautious. Over half of the cases
were due to close contact. He encouraged people to wear face covering and distance themselves from others.
Sixteen percent of the confirmed cases were exposed outside of the county. If people were considering travel, they
needed to be safe and take precautions. He encouraged only essential travel.
