Home My WebLink AboutR92-028 supports legislation re creation of mass transportation authorityCommissioner (� {�'e� moved adoption of the following Resolution: RESOLUTION OF THE COUNTY OF EAGLE, STATE OF COLORADO RESOLUTION NO. 92 -� IN RE THE MATTER of MASS TRANSPORTATION LEGISLATION Whereas, rural mountain communities are facing increasing demands for mass transportation; and Whereas, existing law authorizing creation of mass transportation districts and authorities is not well suited to meet the demands of rural mountain communities. Major shortcomings include the geographic requirements of the current law; and Whereas, efficient, well -run mass transportation offers communities the benefits of cleaner air, decreased traffic congestion, increased safety, and greater efficiency in transportation; and Whereas, local citizens can best determine the means and extent by which funding should be made available for mass transportation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Eagle, State of Colorado: That, the Board of County Commissioners supports legislation authorizing the creation of mass transportation authorities that recognize geographic and economic boundaries and promote efficient well -run mass transportation. That, the Board of County Commissioners is opposed to legislation which grants extensive taxing authority without a vote of the people, authority to condemn private property, or authority to assess fees on permits and registrations and Special excise taxes. The Board finds that the passage of this resolution is necessary for the health, safety and welfare of Eagle County.
