June 2, 2020

Matt Scherr Commissioner
Jeanne McQueeney Commissioner
Jeff Shroll County Manager
Kathy Scriver Deputy Clerk to the Board
This being a scheduled Public Hearing, the following items were presented to the Board of County
Commissioners for their consideration:
Commissioner Updates
Commissioner McQueeney spoke about early childhood and the tough position in terms of the early
childcare field. She believed there was a crisis like she'd never seen before due to budget cuts and the COVID
crisis. It was disheartening that many programs would be cut due to reduced revenue. She would continue to work
on the issue, and early childhood was an issue for the community. People could feel free to talk to her about it.
Representative Roberts carried a bill earlier in the year having to do with HOA's and child care would proceed and
would likely be signed by the governor.
Commissioner Scherr spoke about the importance of voting. He encouraged people to get engage in the
issues and get involved by voting.
Chairman Chandler-Henry spoke about kindness and treating everyone with kindness was the best one
could do. She welcomed back Eagle County as the building opened up yesterday to the public.
County Manager Updates
Jeff Shroll recognized the Facilities Department for all their work. He recently met with some local
restaurant owners and encouraged everyone to continue patronizing local businesses. He thanked the business
community tremendously for their patience as the county worked through COVID with the Public Health Team. It
would take a lot of collaboration and cooperation to get through this.
COVID-19 Update
Birch Barron provided a COVID update. He reviewed the weekly performance indicators. Over the last 10
days, there had been 17 new cases. Many of the cases were contracted during the holiday and spread of illness in
the workplace. About 5%of the individuals that were tested came back positive.National and state trends had not
changed much in the last week. The upcoming goal was to consider the next phase as early as June 22. This would
depend on an approval from the state and cooperation from the community. He hoped to get some direction from
the board and discuss what the new school year would look like. He reminded everyone that the river levels were
high and tensions were high and there were a lot of non-COVID issues needing to be addressed. Information was
available on ECemergency.org where there was a tool kit for businesses, information about the current fire
restriction updates, and a river level chart.
