whole building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human

4.—EXPERIENCE FORM
I often wonder how many current airport or county employees remember Jim Elwood (ECAT's
first airport manager), and were around on Opening; Day in 1996 I remember it like it was a year
ago. I remember he and I had a terminal pre -walk through the terminal at lam and his only iS%Ue
was the white snap dripping out onf the soap dispensers into the white sinks were not working for
him. As the fist flight landed he and I were pushing brooms on the outside sidewalks; nor because
they needed it but we both needed to control out nervous energy.
I also remember the apprehension we all felt after the completed expansion in the fail of 1991;
September 11, 2001 changed everything. Barriers went up outside the entryways, no parking in the
parking lots, reflective film was placed on all exterior windows, LE Q's carried Firearms and the
National Guard carried automatic assult rifles while patrolling security and the hold area_
fast forward nearly 20 years and ScrviceMaster is still providing consistent service and excellent
customer service dispite some significant challenges hiring goad people. It is no secret that Nagle
County has an affordable housing crisis and that all employers fight for employees upvallcy and
down. Because the =Port's winter season starts around Thanksgiving all lin3sinesses pertaining to
the ski season have hosted job fairs and made their selections; natually leaving; ScrviccMaster at a
disadvantage. Over the past 3 years, over SO % of our employees have rc=ncd the following year.
Because Serviceh'Iaster has served the Eagle County Regional Airport since its inception in 1996, 1
can tell you RGB is not just another account that yon bid to win and then figure out how to get the
job donne.
EGE is a Con mitrne'rat 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The entire Sen+iceMaster staff shares this Commitment regardless whether dxcy arc assigned directIv
to the airport or not. You can find other members of the ScrviceMastcr team lcndirng a helpfiit
hand like carpet /tile crew helping with trash removal and policing the front sidewalks and taxi areas
or perhaps other housekeepers converging; on window cleaning to knock it OUL. I don't think anynne
can overlook the passion, dedication and hard work that of Bertha Mata and Brenda Gallegos.
ServiceMastcr CCS has not activily marketed our cleaning services in some years because there are
only so manly qualified employees in this valley. Instead, ServiceMasrer CCS spends our marketing;
budget on Employee R,ecruitrnent, Training and Retention.
We are ServiceMastet..... and ServiceMaster is EGE.

io. FAMILIARITY WITH EAGLE COUNTY
When my daughters were born in Vail in 2000 and 2003, they became 0 generation Cagle County reside -nts,
My grandfather settled in Minturn the early 1920's, my father was born in Gilman in 1947 and I was barn in
Leadville (Vail, hospital didn't exist yet) in 1968, My uncle, owned an exavation company and dug the hole for
one of Vail's first hotels: the Lodge at 'Vail. I was the first generation of N12rtzanares' that clad not work
underground i_n the Gilman or Climax mines.
On to Business:
In January of 1991, as I was in my final year of a Business/computcr scicnce/CIS degree, my father was
diagnosed with cancer and I returned home in July for support. I was offered the opportunity to bw a
5erv1_ceM2ster business and become partners with my brother. With a co- signed loan from our ;parents. P-1ve
and I purchased over 8 years, ServiceMaster of Vail on October 1, 1991; making us the youngest sole busincs
owners 23 and 20, within the ServiceMaster franchise system of 3000 Franchises world wide.
Our largest account was the new Eagle County contract and new Eagle County Building, On day 1, we had
10 employees and 4 quit because they weren't gonna work for kids. In 2008 be Fore the recession,
ServiceMaster CCS employed on average 90 part -time employees throughout the winter months. 'Today we
average 45.
After being awarded the SCAT contract in 1996, the demands and response time wns too slow orrving the
airport from Minturn and so my partner Dave moved to Eagle: in 1997 and I followed in 2001 Wr- pi m -hascd
a commercial space off of Chambers. Road where our office is today.
[WM _M
Eagle County is my home, my heritage and one day hopefully a long tune froth now, I'll be put to rest ncxi t{i
my Grandfather, Father and Uncle in the N intum cernetary.
