The goal of this employee is to complete an MPH with a major in maternal-child health. Program Narrative: Graduate study at the University of Minnesota is expanding the ability of this professional to identify and promote social and environmental conditions which promote health and well-being for families, mothers and children. Courses center around leadership, team building and public health collaboration, participatory research, building of systems, and moving people to action as well as cutting edge knowledge in women and children's health. These courses are designed to facilitate optimal growth and development of families and children and are critical to improving program quality and ultimately helping children to succeed in school. This distance learning opportunity is achieved by this employee because of many years of work in the field of maternal-child health. An intensive summer institute is part of the requirement for the degree. These will become references for the program. Volunteer hours: The local community will provide volunteer hours in planning for a federal community health care clinic and planning to increase capacity for well child checks based on community assessment. Total non-feral share provided by Eagle County is $1304. Requirements with the Eagle County Human Resource Department will be in place to ensure that individuals who receive financial assistance from the Office of Head Start will work in a Head Start program for a minimum of 3 years after receiving the degree or repay the total or a prorated amount of the financial assistance received based on the length of service completed after receiving the degree. Approval of agenda: Agenda was unanimously approved Approval of minutes: Minutes were approve unanimously Opening Activity: Juana -provided opening activity -Yarn ball was passed randomly from person to person, in end there was web created by the yarn. Message: as we are united by yarn so are we united by the community, families, and families of EHS. The yarn broke at one point but members problems solved together and tied back together. Together we achieve more. Report of director: Jennie reviewed the budget in detail and James Wilkins, community representative from 15` Bank Of Vail stated, "On target, 4 months into the program and 32% of budget spent." Update on hiring process for EI Jebel Basalt home visitor. New Business: Early Head Start- Community process reviewed; executive report and findings shared. This report is used for program planning. Motion to approve Community Assessment by Gabriella, seconded by Africa. Unanimously approved. Self-Assessment analysis reviewed in depth by Olga. The self assessment is done in detail because we want to be a program of excellence. Juana suggested to have a fire drill. She explained that during the Leaps & Bounds Conference that the fire alarm went off twice during the night and it really frightened her children. If we practice, then our children will not be as frightened. Fire Drills will occur at both group socialization sites early summer. Jennie discussed the opportunity to apply for one time training funding. Becky McCaulley our Nurse for all the health components of program is going to grad school for a Master's in Public Health and this will be an opportunity for additional funding to assist her in her education. The program may or may not receive the funding. Motion to approve application for the 2008 one time T~l"A funding proposal to increase the educational status of staff made by Africa, seconded by Efrain Gomez. Unanimously approved. Otd Business: Leaps and bounds training by Africa Caldera on multiple intelligences. She illustrated verbal, visual and musical. She also talked about domestic violence and it effects on our children and different personalities of our children.
