outstanding volunteers in our community. Winners from each category are also
submitted to the Governor's office for Colorado Cares recognition. In the past three
years, the State of Colorado has honored three volunteers from Eagle County who have
led the way in volunteerism in their categories. The Eagle County Volunteer Center
currently supports 637 volunteers in 105 agencies and offers service to volunteers of all
ages.
Volunteers currently serve agencies which address various issues such as emergency or
disaster relief, animal and wildlife care, community improvement, arts and culture, the
environment, literacy, mentoring, assisting elderly and disabled populations, food banks,
hospice care, libraries, senior programs and assisted medical transportation.
Outcomes are measured by the number of volunteer sites offered to the volunteers and by
the number of volunteers and the number of hours they are able to give to help local non-

accomplished by forming partnerships with local non-profits to promote voluntary
service, especially inter-generational service, which strengthens the fabric of our
community. The need was determined by a community network of non-profit agencies.
In a 2001 Eagle County Non-Profit Organizations Need/Opportunities Assessment,
volunteer recruitment and placement was listed as the number two priority.

From January 1, 2006 through April 30, 2006, the program registered 637 volunteers who
