Eag.c County Early Head Start
2005 One-time T/TA funds
is beginning to develop a strategic planning model for fatherhood involvement
which includes stakeholder analysis, environmental scan, program mission/vision,
goal areas, objectives, action plan and budget development, and reviewing and
refining the plan. Eazly Head Start currently is utilizing Regional T/TA.
Current involvement:
- 25% of fathers are involved routinely in program activities.
- 50-75% are involved intermittently and/or for special events.
The challenges include:
- Identifying the needs of fathers in the community and what services they might
find most useful.
- Most fathers think that Early Head Start is for mothers.
The program's goal is to support and sustain fathers' involvement in their child(ren)
lives year after year. Objectives include:
- To assess the need to determine who the fathers in the community are. What is it
that they want/need and what are the fatherhood issues present in the
community?
- To identify goals and measurable outcomes.
- To develop a strategic plan for implementing the findings based on the
assessment.
The program has and will continue to institutionalize father involvement via the
assessment and planning process by getting input from fathers and community partners
and then by making these fathers and community partners part of the planning process.
The anticipated outcome is to increase fathers' participation in the lives of their
children. Upon implementation of the assessment, identification of the goals, and
development of the strategic plan, the program anticipates an increase of 10% in the
routine participation of fathers in the program, bringing the participation level to 35%.
The target audience will be fathers in the program and in the community
