Eagle County Early Head Start Application for Budget Amendment
Budget Narrative
Original request in the Carry Over Budget was for purchase of 2 econ vans @ $26,000 each for a
total of $52,000. The Financial Assistance Award stipulated that "The purchase of the vans,
must meet the crash survivability and safety features of school buses." Econ vans in the original
request do not meet the crash survivability and safety features of school buses.
The cost of a vehicle that meets the crash survivability and safety features of school buses is
significantly higher than $26,000 per vehicle. Therefore, to keep within the budget the program
has come up with an option. This option includes purchasing one Girardin CB R 2002 Activity
School bus @ $32,483 (14 passenger) and one Ford Windstar Mini Van @ $20,940
(6 passenger). This option will meet all federal safety requirements in transporting children and
families and in meeting the program's challenge in providing transportation to families in need in
a safe and efficient manner. Additionally training will be established for all staff who will drive
vehicles on the safe use of alternative community vehicles and safety in `uanspol ing inua<<s,
toddlers, and their parents. This option increases the equipment budget by $1,423..
The program proposes to take the increase difference $1,423 from supplies line item and add to
equipment line item to balance the budget. Specifically, the $1,423 will come from age
appropriate outdoor play ground supplies for Avon and Eagle GS sites.
